The Manchester Open and British Open saw hundreds of kids from local junior schools get their first introduction to squash with juniors from local clubs being inspired by the stars of the PSA World Tour and being able to spend time on the glass court.
The PSA Foundation are fortunate to have such inspirational role models through our players, always readily available to spend time with the next generation to inspire both recreational and future pro players.
Over the course of both tournaments we saw multiple junior schools full of eager kids ready to try out our fun and exciting sport. The sessions were delivered by local coaches to each tournament, with readily available information on how to join in their weekly sessions post tournament.
We also saw multiple pro’s give their time to inspire the next generation, whether it’s kids being introduced to the sport or those looking to make a career out of it. On this occasion the players getting on court with the juniors and doing Q & A’s included: Ali Farag, Zahed Salem, James Willstrop, Miguel Rodriguez, Nouran Gohar, Amanda Sobhy, Camille Serme, Nour El Tayeb, Nele Gilis, Samantha Cornett, Danielle Letourneau and Tinne Gilis amongst others as well.
Our Rebound programme was also in full flow, as we saw multiple donations from players, spectators and our sponsors Dunlop. The programme takes in unused squash gear and posts them out across the world to our partner outreach programmes that seek to introduce disadvantaged juniors to the world of squash.
PSA World Tour events produce aspirational platforms for inspiring people of all ages to pick up a racket and aim to utilise those opportunities to engage the local network of clubs and schools.
