Datuk Nicol David launches women’s programme to empower mothers to strengthen their health and mental well-being

Kuala Lumpur, 22 June 2024 – Squash legend, Datuk Nicol David together with former Colombian squash player, Mariana de Reyes launched the Ibu Legends programme by the Nicol David Organisation (NDO). The Ibu Legends programme is an addition to their already running children’s programme “Little Legends,” and will centre on providing mothers with a holistic 4-month programme that focuses on delivering full free medical checkups, mental and physical well-being workshops and parenting support. With its lead programme, the organisation seeks to build a positive environment for mothers to enhance their health and strengthen their mental resilience.

The launch event was held in the VE Hotel and Residence and was graced by YB Hannah Yeoh Minister of Youth and Sports, along with the mothers pertaining to the programme, sponsors and implementation partners.

In a heartfelt speech Datuk Nicol David said,

“I have the most admiration for mothers, they’re the centre of every home and they are our heroes. I have been blessed to have a loving and nurturing mother who taught me the values of humbleness but also to always look out for myself. I know firsthand how much she sacrificed for me and my sisters, but she never once said it or asked for help. She just did it because that’s what mothers do, they keep giving to make sure all of us are okay.”

“This is why this programme is so important to me, because my dream is that all mothers are looked after, that all mothers have what they need to be healthy and supported. Motherhood can be lonely, and my wish is that through this programme we can provide counsel and community to grow together.”

Graced by YB Hannah Yeoh, Datuk Nicol David welcomed the first cohort of mothers, 30 Ibu Legends who were accepted into the programme.

This programme is sponsored by Watsons, Cartier, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Hospital Wanita & Kanak-Kanak Naluri and PPB Group.

Caryn Loh, Managing Director of Watsons Malaysia and Regional Exclusives Director of WI, said, ‘We at Watsons are honoured to support the Ibu Legends programme by the Nicol David Organisation, alongside valued partners. This initiative aligns with our commitment to boosting women’s health and well-being.

Through this initiative, Watsons is providing daily essentials, basic health checks in-store, and fostering a supportive community valued at more than RM60,000. We aim to empower mothers to prioritize their health and nurture their families with strength and resilience. We hope that together we can create a positive impact and celebrate the invaluable contributions of mothers in our communities.
