The tournament, which was a PSA World Championship qualifier event, saw a week of high-quality squash after Harrity defeated England’s WorldNo.55 Joshua Masters in the final.
Former World No.1 and three-time World Champion Nick Matthew was also present throughout the week in Madeira as he conducted special workshops with local juniors and took part in various signing and Q&A sessions with fans and tournament organisers.
The hotel has a long association with squash, with Madeira being the first place in Portugal where squash was played and from then the sport has become widely spread among the locals.
Located next to a nature reserve, the resort places a key focus on sustainability and the importance of being environmentally friendly with the resort focused on reducing negative impacts on the environment.
The hotel uses renewable energy with solar panels installed for water heating and photovoltaic panels to produce energy. The swimming pools also all use saltwater with the water changed daily overnight for guests with many benefits highlighted.

PSA Foundation Manager, Adriana Olaya, commented: “The Galo Resort in Madeira is one of the best hotels on the PSA World tour.
“Not only does it have stunning views and amazing food, but it also has so many activities! You can have a very active holiday, or you can easily relax by the pool and enjoy the spa. It’s a perfect retreat for any squash players.
“I loved the fact that it’s a “conscious” hotel. They have healthy food available, they provide yoga mats for all guests and they are really making strides in protecting the environment by using solar panels, recycling, lowering energy consumption and even using salt water in their swimming pools.”
